Naming is the hardest part. That and opening sentences.
Deciding on these was a nightmare. After a hundred rejected names scrunched into paper balls were thrown into the bin, my girlfriend came up with this one after all the times I’ve had my name misspelled.
“2 A’s, 1 L and no idea.” Who can relate?
The opening sentence was tough too. After a dozen more job applications claiming I’m ‘proficient at Excel’ and ‘have a lifelong passion in data-entry’ and ‘have years of experience’ despite only graduating last year; I went with honesty.
That’s how the Blog came about. Just a place to write honestly.
As I started writing this, I was reminded of an inspirational quote someone told me. In Hamlet, the character Polonius gives this sagely advice:
“To thine own self be true … thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Polonius then sends people to spy on his daughter, before spying on Hamlet himself by hiding behind a curtain where Hamlet stabs him. Hamlet himself feigns madness and meets a sticky end.
This is like being told to calm down by your mate, only for your mate to beep, swear and throw a half-eaten burger at an ambulance for cutting him off. Do as I say, not as I do.. right?
So this is my space to just be true to myself. And to remind myself to take that course on Excel.
Next week: I’m a Lawyer, get me out of here!
