Happy 2022 everyone!

The Christmas/New Year/Boxing Day Test break couldn’t come soon enough. Hopefully you all found a way to spend it with your loved ones, catching up with friends, or putting your feet up.

I spent it with someone I love. Scott Boland. Champion cricketer who ran through the English batters like a bad burrito. It excited me so much I forgot to write a blog last week.

Right now I’m writing this blog on a plane – been a while since I’ve been on one of those!

For 2 years my feet have been deeply planted in Melbourne. Most of that time I’ve been working from home, so the outside world has just been a series of bad news stories and vaccination hubs.

The only catch is that I’m going to Sydney. Sydney is like Geelong with an Opera House and no nightlife after 11pm.

Even so, I’m really excited to go. I used to fly up to Sydney every few months. My ‘normal’ is checking in my bag, sleeping on the flight, being startled by the landing and paying too much for an Uber to wherever I’m staying that night.

That’s the fun of travelling. Meeting different people, seeing different sites, learning about different ways of life. I’m just across the border now, but before too long it’ll be somewhere further away.

So it’s a return to some sort of normal. And although Sydney usually has all the allure of wet white rice, I can’t wait to take it all in for the next few days before getting stuck into work again.

Next week: The Greater Resignation
