#5 – The Great Gig in the Skyscraper

Give me this city over Paris, New York, Tokyo, anywhere.
Being back at work in our CBD for a week (a very rainy week I might add) has been magical. I spent most of 2020 only ever seeing it on TV, where the streets were so dead it looked like a scene out of I Am Legend – but without the dog.
I forgot how much I loved the art, the architecture, even the sight of Federation Square put a smile on my face!
Work has been nice too. I’ve been at Allens, and when someone asks me my name I can always say: “if you forget, it’s written on the door!”
This is usually met by them rolling their eyes and getting another cup of coffee, muttering under their breath.
A lot’s been said about the ‘gig economy’ and these short-term, freelance roles where you’re the most important person in the world for 2 weeks and suddenly back to your couch, waiting to come off the bench and get back into work again.
Let me say I’ve loved it so far. The thought of taking my skillset to different places, solving their problems, not being tied down anywhere too long – it’s like being stuck in a honeymoon-phase loop with each new position.
Does it have its drawbacks? Absolutely. But I love it anyway.
And any recommendations for lunch/coffee near 101 Collins Street would be greatly appreciated!
Next week: If I could tell my 16 year-old self…
